Planning Strategies

The Cornish Design and Technology Planning strategies were devised by the DMC to ensure progressive and rigorous Design and Technology experiences for pupils from early years onwards. The strategies provide a fully illustrated alternative to the non-statutory QCA scheme of work. In many schools, both in Cornwall and beyond, teachers have integrated these strategies with the QCA scheme to provide a bank of activities which allow choice and flexibility whilst maintaining progression and continuity of pupil experience.

Early Years

The early years strategy places the pupil at the centre of designing and making activities and is supported by our illustrated resource packs available from our catalogue.

Primary

The KS1 and KS2 planning strategy builds on the early years work and identifies two sets of learning objects - process skills and knowledge, skills and understanding. These are progressively developed through the planned pupil activities which can be facilitated by our resource packs.

Secondary

The secondary strategy again builds on the previous stage and complements it by using the same rationale, process and skills for both planning and assessment purposes and the knowledge and understanding strands.
