Section 1 gives an overview of design, exploring what design is, its history and some of the different careers available within this field. It also considers the way products evolve or are dependent on new technologies.
Section 1 - Design Overview (1175Kb)
This section provides an insight into a broad range of designers' work, showing how there is not just one design process but many.
Section 2 - Case Studies (8280Kb)
There are three activities in this section. The first allows pupils to consider what qualities and attitudes they can bring to designing. The second and third encourage teachers and departments to debate what conditions are needed to allow these to flourish.
Section 3 - Designer Qualities and Attitudes (1047Kb)
Section 4 provides a wealth of practical resources for students to use in enhancing their design capabilities. They both support/interpret and provide alternative strategies to those found in module 4 of the national KS3 designing strategy. This section is not complete and more will be added soon.
Section 4 - Design Tool Kit (804Kb)
This section looks at starting points for design, where ideas come from, and how they are developed and refi ned. A range of tools and strategies is suggested for each stage. These may be used formally or informally, as needed, to help get the most out of your creative minds.
